Samsung announced a new Android-powered media player today that easily dwarfs the company’s preceding 3.6, 4.0, 4.2 and 5.0 batch of similar devices. Resembling a super-sized Galaxy S III smartphone, the WiFi-only Galaxy Player 5.8 features a massive 5.8-inch QHD (960×540) display with 16:9 aspect ratio, 16/32GB storage configurations (expandable via microSD), a VGA front-facing camera, 2,500mAh battery, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi connectivity, high-quality stereo speakers, and Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS. It weighs 221 grams and measures 10.8mm thick. Still no word on availability or pricing, but that could change over the next couple of days as IFA 2012 gets underway.
