Today, Samsung officially announced the previously rumored Galaxy Mega 6.3 and Galaxy Mega 5.8 Android smartphones. Like their names suggest, the pair of mega phones have enormous 6.3 and 5.8-inch displays, respectively. However, unlike the current Galaxy Note II and upcoming Galaxy Note III, these devices are part of Samsung’s mid-tier lineup. The GM 5.8 comes with a qHD display, 1.4GHz dual-core processor, 8GB of storage, HSPA+ connectivity and a 2,600 mAh battery. The GM 6.3 has slightly more appetizing specs, including a 720p HD display, 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 16GB of internal storage, support for 4G LTE, and a beefier 3,200 mAh battery. The latter is 1mm thinner, but significantly heavier than the former. Both handsets feature 1.5GB of RAM, expandable memory through micro-SD card, an 8 megapixel rear camera, 1.9MP front-facing camera, and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The Galaxy Mega devices will be available in Europe, with specific mention of Russia, beginning next month in May. Pricing details were not released.
