Today, carrier KDDI unveiled the INFOBAR A01 Android smartphone for the Japanese market. The A01 features a 3.7″ qHD (960×540) display, 8 megapixel camera, 1Seg TV, osaifu-keitai (mobile wallet), and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread. However, the most unique aspect of the handset lies within the software. KDDI is describing the new iida user interface as a “band of information,” which consists of a vertically scrolling homescreen of app shortcuts, icons and widgets. The layout is similar to the way the Windows Phone 7 Start screen looks and scrolls.
The INFOBAR A01 will be offered in four colors: Kuro, Nishikigoi, Hacca, and Chocomint; and it will be released in July 2011. Read more on the A01′s UI, specifications and check out a few videos of the handset in action below.
The INFOBAR A01 may run Android 2.3, but it’s custom skin would lead you to believe otherwise. The iida UI, pictured to the left, is one vertically scrolling menu of customizable shortcuts and widgets.Operating System
