KDDI au announced the HTC Infobar A02 Android smartphone for the Japanese market. If the handset’s unique aesthetics look familiar, it’s because it was designed by Naoto Fukasawa, the same industrial designer who imagined the simplistic, yet colorful Infobar A01 and Infobar C02 phones. His creations are certainly one of a kind and tend to stand out from the usual crowd of smartphones.

As for hardware specs, the A02 features a 4.7-inch 720p HD display, Qualcomm APQ8064 Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core 1.5GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage expandable with microSD card, an 8 megapixel rear camera, 2.1MP front-facing camera, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, osaifu-keitai, 1SEG TV, Beats Audio support, and a 2100mAh battery. The dustproof/waterproof body weighs 147g and measures 9.7mm thick.

The Infobar A02 runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with the latest iida (Innovation Imagination Design Art) user interface, which was created by web designer Yugo Nakamura. Iida UI 2.0, which looks like the Windows Phone 8 Start screen on steroids, is centered around a vertically-scrolling homescreen filled with customizable and re-sizable apps and widgets. There are also complimentary screens to access list view and widget options on either side. Users can easily change the color scheme to their liking and even disable the bubbly animations in the settings menu. It’s all very intriguing.

The HTC Infobar will be released on KDDI au in mid-February. As you can see in the press images and videos below, it will be available in three color options, including nishikigoi (red), ice gray (white) and aoao (blue).
