This Motorola X Phone Image is Likely a Fake

An anonymous tipster claims the image above is of the Motorola X Phone. The unidentified source also claims to know the device’s specs, mentioning a 4.7-inch 1280×768 display fortified with Gorilla Glass 3, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, 4000mAh battery and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. It’s also thought to be IP57 water resistant certified.

Of course, there’s little chance anybody actually believes this is the real deal. It’s a pretty-looking render, but it’s more believable as a concept or hoax than an authentic press shot. First, the fact that the source is unknown raises a huge red flag. Most legit leaks can be traced back to a trusted source with a favorable track record. Even if you can ignore that tidbit, there are also plenty of signs it’s a faked image. Take a look at the date shown on the screen in the photo: March 25. That’s today’s date and too much of a coincidence to ignore. Also, notice the discrepancy in time in the notification bar and clock widget. What about the earpiece speaker grill? Can’t exactly make calls without that. The stock app icons and altered navigational buttons clash as well. Lastly, the Motorola X Phone is rumored to appear at Google I/O 2013 on May 15th. If that’s the case, this phone would likely be introduced with Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, not 4.2 Jelly Bean.
