HTC partnered with Funny or Die to create a spoof of The Bachelorette TV show just in time for the U.S. launch of the HTC One Android smartphone.
The nearly 4-minute comedy short puts a spin on the dating show theme by replacing the typical male contestants with various types of phones. James Van Der Beek of Dawson’s Creek fame plays the host as the woman playing the bachelorette decides between a smartphone with a poor quality speaker, an old school rotary phone, a flip phone and the HTC One. Naturally, the HTC One wins with the tag line of it’s “everything your phone isn’t.”
HTC has been struggling as of late and the company recently revealed it would introduce a new slogan and increase its marketing spending for the HTC One and beyond. Between bashing Samsung’s Galaxy S4 and this Funny or Die skit, is HTC finally moving in the right direction again? The HTC One goes sale in the US starting April 19th at Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile. Look for the Funny or Die ad to appear online on Adult Swim, truTV, Conan, and in movie theaters from April 24 through May 23.
