Polaroid introduced an interesting new product at CES 2012 in Las Vegas the other week. The Polaroid SC1630 Smart Camera is a digital camera that’s powered by Android. That’s right, it’s a camera first, Android device second. The front looks like a standard 16 megapixel camera with built in 3X optical zoom, but when you flip it over and power on the 3.2-inch touchscreen display, you’re greeted with the Android operating system in all its glory. It also has WiFi functionality and a cellular radio.
Unfortunately, as you’ll see in the video, the software is a bit buggy, slow, and it seems to be powered by underwhelming specs (supposedly 800MHz processor, 512MB of RAM). I should mention Polaroid claims it will be updated with a newer software build of Android in time for launch, so maybe that will help speed it up. This one is due out in April of his year for around $300.
