After failing to bring the SC1630 Smart Camera to market in 2012, Polaroid is back with another attempt at an Android-powered point-and-shoot digital camera in 2013. The new 18 megapixel Polaroid iM1836 Android Smart Camera was announced at the 2013 International CES and this time it features updated specs and an interchangeable lens. Interestingly enough, Polaroid chose to include the sensor into the detachable lens in order to target novice users. Furthermore, Polaroid provides consumers the option of using all Micro Four Thirds system lenses with the camera, using an accompanying adapter with built-in sensor. The iM1836 runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, which can be accessed by the user via a 3.5-inch LCD touchscreen display. Surprisingly, the Polaroid representative said the company still doesn’t know what kind of processor will be in the final product, but consumers can expect five lenses to be available by the end of the year. The digital camera itself will be released in Q2 2013 (April) for $349. It faces stiff competition from the already released Samsung Galaxy Camera. [Direct YouTube Link]
