Microsoft launched Windows Phone 7.5 Mango just six days ago and they’re already reaching out to handset owners with a status update. According to Eric Hautala (General Manager, Customer Experience Engineering), the update process has been going smoothly, acknowledging successful updates in “every country, on every carrier, and for nearly every Windows Phone model.” It’s been such a success that they’ve decided to increase the roll-out to more users earlier than expected.
In fact, the update success rates we’re seeing look so good we’ve decided to open the spigot ahead of schedule, and make Windows Phone 7.5 available to 50 percent of eligible customers starting right now. (Why not 100 percent? Because we’re still collecting and analyzing installation data from our smaller operators, and need to watch it little bit longer to make sure everything is OK.)
In case you were wondering, Microsoft also elaborated on how Windows Phones are selected to receive the update. Essentially, it’s all random – there’s no preference for carrier, model or country. This ensures accurate sample testing and benefits the bigger picture. If you haven’t received an update notification yet, sit tight, as it’s on its way.
