The 7-inch Wikipad Android gaming tablet will be released for $249 at retail stores starting in Spring 2013, the company announced this morning. What makes the Wikipad stand out from other 7″ Android devices is its ability to convert from a standard tablet into a portable gaming system via an attachable controller with dual analog sticks. It’s an interesting design concept that we’ll likely see more of in the future.
The newly announced Wikipad sports a 7-inch 1280×800 IPS display with 16:10 aspect ratio, Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage expandable with microSD card, a 2 megapixel front-facing camera, Bluetooth 4.0, a 4100mAh battery and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. It’s actually a more compact variant of the previously announced 10-inch model. “The smaller frame delivers an aggressive price while keeping the same amazing specs,” said Fraser Townley of Wikipad. Along with the smaller form factor, the 7″ Wikipad’s controls have also been tweaked and improved with response times and overall gaming experience in mind.
