WatchESPN app for iOS, coming to Android soon (video)

Today, ESPN launched their latest iOS app, called WatchESPN (iTunes link). As the app’s name implies, it allows live streaming of some of their main channels: ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPN 3 and ESPN U. It’s free for those who subscribe to ESPN through Time Warner Cable, Brighthouse Networks, or Verizon FIOS TV. ESPN also says the app will be available on other platforms, like Android, “in the near future,” so we’ll be sure to inform you when that goes down as well.

In the video below, we go hands-on with the WatchESPN app to check out the quality of the live streaming video content. Spoiler: it’s awesome, at least if you’re a sports fan who wants 24-hour access to the best sports-centric channels on the planet. That being said, we’re a little bummed that an optimized version for the iPad is missing in action at launch. Fortunately, ESPN says the iPad version will be available in May.

We can’t wait for this app to arrive on other platforms like Android (and hopefully Windows Phone 7).

UPDATE: Android version of WatchESPN has been released! Check out our video review.
