Verizon Wireless has finally upgraded its Samsung Galaxy Nexus from Android 4.1.1 to 4.2.2 Jelly Bean (JDQ39). While 4.2.2 is the latest version of Android to date, the Google-backed Nexus device should have received build 4.2 months ago. Instead, users have had to sit through inexcusable and unexplained delays. The GSM Galaxy Nexus was updated to Android 4.2.1 in November and 4.2.2 in February. The Sprint model, which is identical to the Verizon unit, received 4.2.1 in January. Still, Verizon Galaxy Nexus users can temporarily put frustrations dealing with the update process aside as they should now have access to new software features like Photo Sphere, Swype style Gesture Typing, and lockscreen widgets. The update will be pushed out in phases over the next week or so, so keep an eye out for an automatic update notification. We’ll post the full changelog when Verizon makes it available.
