Sprint Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch Gets Android 4.1 Jelly Bean GB27 Update

Sprint has made a firmware upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly bean available for the 18-month old Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch smartphone.

Unlike most updates, which are pushed over the air in phases, the GB27 software update is only accessible to the user as an over-the-wire download on Samsung’s support site. Epic 4G Touch owners who are uneasy about going through the nontraditional update process can also visit their local Sprint Service and Repair Center to have an official representative do it for them.

It’s unclear why Sprint didn’t go the OTA route this time around, but at least the Now Network came through with the Jelly Bean update. This is the device’s first major update since it received Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in July of last year.
