Samsung’s Ambitious Goal to Ship Half Billion Phones in 2013

After shipping nearly 400 million mobile phones in 2012, Samsung Electronics hopes to increase shipments to half a billion in 2013, according to an undisclosed industry supply chain.

Samsung shipped 40 million units of its flagship Galaxy S III Android smartphone last year and analysts expect that number to rise for the upcoming Galaxy S4 this year as it’s scheduled to be released on 327 mobile operators across 155 countries starting this month. While the Galaxy S and Note flagship lines often make headlines and account for a large portion of sales, it’s important to remember the Korea-based manufacturer sells tons of low to mid-range handsets as well. Samsung’s goal of shipping 500 million cell phones may be ambitious, but it’s certainly not surprising given the company’s recent success in the mobile space.
