Samsung Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note S, Galaxy S II Plus and TI OMAP4470 powered Galaxy Nexus details leak out

Some new rumors for upcoming Samsung devices have emerged. According to Dutch site MobileCowboys, Samsung is planning to release the much anticipated Galaxy S III Android smartphone in Turkey on March 13, 2012. If that’s true, then we should expect a similar release time-frame in select regions across Europe and Asia, too. That mid-March timeline happens to be a couple of weeks after Mobile World Congress this year, so there’s still a possibility that Samsung will announce the device then. Keep in mind, however, that would contradict a previous rumor citing a delay of the official unveiling. In our opinion, March seems a little early to release the next generation Galaxy S3, a device that’s rumored to sport a quad-core processor, 720p HD Super AMOLED Plus display, 2GB of RAM, 12 megapixel rear camera and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Two other Samsung handsets were tipped as well. The Samsung Galaxy S II Plus and Galaxy Note S is expected to be released around November or December. While details are scarce, it’s likely that the GS2 Plus will simply have an upgraded display and processor. Changes that come with the Galaxy Note S (GT-N8000 or GT-N8010?) are a bit harder to predict, but it, too, could feature an upgraded processor.

Finally, a NenaMark benchmark result has possibly revealed the existence of an upgrade Samsung Galaxy Nexus. As you probably know, the current Galaxy Nexus rocks a 1.2GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4460 processor with PowerVR SGX540 GPU. Well, the Galaxy Nexus atop the NenaMark benchmarks lists a PowerVR SGX544 GPU, which also indicates that it’s powered by the newer TI OMAP 4470 chipset. While the OMAP4470 still only delivers dual-core class speeds (up to 1.8GHz, likely underclocked to 1.5GHz), the updated GPU is said to offer 2.5 times the performance of its predecessor. That would make the mystery Galaxy Nexus quite an upgrade over the current model.

There’s always a chance that a clever party spoofed such numbers, but it’s also possible we’re seeing the unreleased Sprint Galaxy Nexus in action. After all, Sprint isn’t expected to launch the LTE-equipped device until mid-year, so a bump in specs would certainly help their case. Remember the leaked Sprint Galaxy Nexus ad that appeared ahead of the CES 2012 announcement? That ad mentioned a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. Was it a typo or does it in fact feature a different chipset than Verizon’s model? It’s interesting that Sprint still hasn’t officially mentioned the CPU/GPU for their variant of the Galaxy Nexus. If a revamped G-Nex is lurking in the wild, it’s only a matter of time before more evidence is leaked, so stay tuned, folks.

Note: remember, rumors should always be taken with a grain of salt.
