Samsung 2013 Super Bowl XLVII Commercial Teased with Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd (Video)

It appears Samsung will again pay top dollars to unleash a new ad during Super Bowl XLVII this Sunday. Last year, during Super Bowl XLVI, the Korean manufacturer enlisted the help of Justin Hawkins, lead singer of The Darkness, in order to hype the original Galaxy Note Android smartphone-tablet hybrid, otherwise known as a phablet. For 2013, it seems Samsung will use Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd to push the Galaxy Note II, at least that’s what the teaser above suggests.

Titled “El Plato Supreme,” the YouTube preview shows the pair of actors/comedians attempting to discuss ideas for Samsung’s Big Game ad, but they fall short when the producer, played by Bob Odenkirk, restricts them from mentioning the words Super Bowl, 49ers or Ravens by name. As a result, we’ve got a commercial for the “Big Plate” featuring the San Francisco “50-Minus-1-ers” v.s. the Baltimore “Black Birds.” The actual 2-minute ad, which will be played during the 4th quarter of the game, will be called “The Big Pitch” and it’s apparently directed by Jon Favreau, known these days for his work with the Iron Man series.

Congratulations, Samsung, you’ve grabbed my attention and I’ll be tuning in on February 3rd to see the real ad. Hopefully, the handset-maker focuses on comedy like they did for this teaser rather than an explosive extravaganza like they did for last year’s Super Bowl advertisement.

Note: also check out last year’s “Thing Called Love” video ad.
