After raising $8.5 million in funds and taking 68,000 orders on Kickstarter in 2012, the OUYA Android-powered gaming console will be available at Best Buy, Amazon, Target and Gamestop starting in June 2013, according to the WSJ. Gamers can pre-order the OUYA beginning today for April delivery before it’s released at the aforementioned retail stores at a price-point of $99 for the console and controller bundle while $50 will fetch a standalone controller with touchpad. It will be interesting to see how consumers respond to another home console option that’s more open, but not as powerful as other gaming units like the Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii U. OUYA may not replace the current and upcoming hardcore systems, but its arrival could put a dent in their sales due to its flexibility and affordable price tag.
