UPDATE: Microsoft just announced two Surface tablets with Windows RT and Windows 8 Pro.
Microsoft will be holding a mystery press conference on Monday, June 18 in Los Angeles in order to make a “major” announcement. That announcement is now believed to be focused on Microsoft’s Windows 8 tablet strategy. Furthermore, a new rumor is starting to spread wildly, suggesting that Microsoft actually wants to design its own tablet – as in, both hardware and software. Microsoft’s rumored device would clearly compete with Apple’s already successful iPad and Google’s upcoming Nexus 7 Tablet. Microsoft will manufacturer their tablet(s) in-house and they could be powered by ARM-based or traditional PC processors, according to sources. If true, it will be interesting to see what Microsoft’s partners have to say about it. We’ll be sure to report back in a few days, so stay tuned!
