LG began teasing a new flagship device, currently code-named Optimus G, in recent days. Now, we get to live vicariously through an unofficial hands-on report and some leaked in-the-wild photos of the upcoming powerhouse of a smartphone.

As you may recall, the Optimus G, which carries the model number LG-E973, sports Qualcomm’s next-generation APQ8064 chipset. According to a source who’s actually handled the E973, it “literally flies” thanks to its Snapdragon S4 Pro 1.5GHz quad-core processor (Adreno 320 GPU) and generous 2GB of RAM. That’s encouraging to hear, especially since the software may not even be finalized yet. Speaking of, while the leaked images note that it’s currently running Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, there’s still a chance LG may upgrade it to 4.1.1 Jelly Bean just prior to launch. The tipster also claims the quality of the 4.7-inch HD (1280×720) IPS display is “excellent.”

Unfortunately, not a word was mentioned about the quality of the 13 megapixel camera or its ability to capture 1080p videos. We do, however, get a decent view of the rear of the device in one of the pictures. LG is scheduled to announce the Optimus G next week at IFA 2012, so stay tuned for more details.

Check out the rest of the leaked shots below.
