LeBron James, NBA superstar and reigning MVP, appeared in a new commercial promoting the Samsung Galaxy Note II Android smartphone during TNT’s broadcast of the Boston Celtics vs Miami Heat basketball game tonight. The lengthy ad, which can be viewed in the embedded video above, shows King James using the popular phablet (phone-tablet hybrid) throughout the day – while eating breakfast with his family in the morning, getting congratulatory text messages from Hall of Famer Magic Johnson, buying community friends lunch at a local foodtruck, getting a fresh shave at the barbershop, stretching out before a big game and so on.
Samsung definitely scored some major points by getting LeBron James to endorse the Galaxy Note 2, especially on opening night during a nationally televised doubleheader in which millions of NBA fans will see the handset. James posted a photo of his custom Galaxy Note II on Twitter about a week ago and he’s been spotted today posting pictures modified with the phone’s S Pen stylus (view them all below). Sprint and Samsung also sponsored TNT’s Emmy award-winning halftime show, Inside the NBA, during which Charles Barkley, Shaq and EJ all received free Galaxy Note 2s on live TV.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Galaxy Note II, let’s get you up to date with the device’s highlighted specs and features. The Note 2 sports a huge 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED display, Samsung’s in-house Exynos 1.6GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, an 8 megapixel rear camera, a 2 megapixel front-facing camera, massive 3100mAh battery, and the newly improved S Pen stylus which you saw LeBron demoing in the advertisement. As for software, it runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with the latest version of TouchWiz. The Galaxy Note II is currently available on Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T. After receiving a ton of criticism for a questionable design change, Verizon Wireless will also release a variant of the same device in November.
