Huawei revealed the Ascend P2 Android smartphone at MWC 2013 in Barcelona. The China-based handset-maker is marketing the P2 as the “world’s fastest smartphone” due to its 1.5GHz quad-core processor and 4G LTE Cat 4 connectivity for download speeds of up to 150 Mbps.
“Ascend P2 is the perfect combination of elegance and power, and further proof that there’s no need to compromise when desiring a perfect smartphone. It is evidence of the outstanding smartphone experiences and great technology that we are committed to bringing to consumers globally,” said Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO Richard Yu.
The successor to last year’s Ascend P1 also features an “infinity edge” 4.7-inch 720p HD in-cell touch IPS display fortified with Gorilla Glass 2, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage (no microSD expansion), a 13 megapixel rear camera with HDR, 1.3 MP front-facing camera, NFC and a 2,420mAh battery. The phone measures just 8.4mm thick, weighs 122g and runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with Huawei’s Emotion UI 1.5 on top.
Additional enhancements include: Swift Sharing for faster WiFi functionality, Quick Power Control and Automated Discontinuous Reception power-saving technologies. A “smartphone housekeeper” feature is also pre-installed on the device, which provides real-time data traffic tracking, automatic blacklisting and blocking, periodical system cleaning, and spontaneous exiting of idle programs and cache cleanup, anti-virus, energy saving, privacy protection and software management. Like the 5-inch Ascend D2 and 6.1-inch Ascend Mate, the Ascend P2 has a Magic Touch feature which enables an ultra-sensitive screen mode for use of the display with gloves.
Available in black and white color options, the Huawei Ascend P2 will initially be released in France on carrier Orange in June with a global launch also set for Q2 2013. Pricing for Europe is listed at 399 euros.
