A slew of HTC Android devices of old and new are scheduled to receive an update from Froyo to Gingerbread within the first half of this year. “We are excited to announce that the Desire HD, Desire Z, Desire and Incredible S will receive the Gingerbread update in Q2,” an HTC spokesperson revealed to SlashGear.
That’s fantastic news for older Desire handset owners, since the newer Desire S was announced earlier this month at MWC. When it’s all said and done, the original Desire will see official builds of Android 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3.x (2.4?), at the very least. That’s impressive considering other manufacturers have yet to finish rolling out 2.2 Froyo for some of their devices. Hopefully HTC’s other hit phones get the same love, like the EVO 4G, for example.
The Desire HD and Z were announced back in September, so we would have been shocked if they didn’t eventually receive the update. We’re still surprised that the Incredible S isn’t launching with Gingerbread pre-installed – since the Desire S and Wildfire S will have it out of the gates.
