Corning unveiled its new glass technology for smartphones and tablets, Gorilla Glass 3, at the International CES 2013 in Las Vegas. The third generation of Gorilla Glass is said to be three times more scratch resistant. According to Corning, Gorilla Glass 3 has been improved at the molecular level by implementing a feature called Native Damage Resistance (NDR), which delivers a 50% increase in retained strength once the glass becomes flawed and helps reduce the appearance of scratches by 40%. In this video, Corning puts its Gorilla Glass 3 up against soda lime glass, a competitor’s glass and Corning’s previous generation Gorilla Glass 2. Then, they perform an industry standard ball drop test and mini-press pressure/force test to show the benefits of the new and improved Gorilla Glass 3. Look for Gorilla Glass 3 to be on many popular Android smartphones and tablets, as well as other gadgets in 2013. [direct YouTube link]
