Today, in Barcelona, Spain, Asus announced the PadFone Infinity at Mobile World Congress 2013. The PadFone Infinity isn’t just an Android smartphone, it’s a package which also includes a tablet shell that allows the phone to dock into it as the central brain of the device. It’s a concept we’ve seen before from the previous PadFone models, but the experience is likely to be improved with updated hardware and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean on-board. On the smartphone side, we’re looking at an aluminium unibody design with brushed metal backing that houses a 5-inch 1920×1080 Super IPS+ display at 441 ppi, Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 1.7GHz quad-core processor with Adreno 320 GPU, 32GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM, a 13 megapixel rear camera, 2MP front-facing shooter, and 2400mAh battery. The phone measures 8.9mm thick and weighs 141g. The PadFone Infinity Station, or tablet shell, features a 10.1-inch 1920×1200 Super IPS+ display, 1 megapixel front-facing camera, MicroUSB 2.0 port, AND none-removable 5000mAh extended battery. The docking accessory measures 10.6mm thick and weighs 530g.
The PadFone Infinity, which includes the smartphone and tablet Station, will be released this April in the UK for 999 euros. No word on a U.S. launch as of today. Full specs, promo videos and image gallery below.
