Samsung announced today that they will release Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates for the Galaxy S II and Galaxy Note in Q1 of 2012.

Samsung Electronics plan to provide the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for GALAXY devices. The platform update for GALAXY S II and GALAXY Note will start in the first quarter 2012, and other GALAXY devices will soon follow. The ICS-upgradable devices are the GALAXY S II, GALAXY S II LTE, GALAXY Note, GALAXY R, GALAXY Tab 10.1, GALAXY Tab 8.9, GALAXY Tab 7.7, and GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus.

Hopefully the Q1 time-frame includes all Galaxy S II variants, not just the original, as US consumers are well-aware of Samsung’s poor track record when it comes to Android updates for their region. Still no word on whether they’ll upgrade the aging single-core Galaxy S line, but it’s not looking good at this point, despite the similarly designed Nexus S recently getting the ICS upgrade. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
